Lack of Hair Causes and Treatments

Lack of hair may be caused by a condition called telogen effluvium. This occurs when the hair follicles are stressed, like a high fever, severe illness, surgery or emotional crisis.

This form of hair loss typically resolves on its own. It can also be triggered by radiation to the scalp, like during cancer treatment with radiotherapy.

Treatment

Hair loss treatment may include medications, vitamins or minerals that stimulate the production of new hair follicles. These medications can also help restore the health of existing follicles or stop hair loss in its tracks.

These include finasteride (Propecia, Proscar) and spironolactone (Carospir, Aldactone).

In some cases, medication can cause side effects like low blood pressure or heart palpitations, so your physician will likely work with you to find the right drug for your needs. 무모증모발이식

A more specialized procedure, known as platelet-rich plasma therapy, or PRP, can improve hair density and strength by separating and injecting the patient’s own blood into areas of thinning hair.

This specialized technique has been shown to stimulate collagen production, improve blood flow and encourage hair growth in some patients.

Prevention

Many types of hair loss can be prevented, although some inherited causes can never be reversed.

However, there are things you can do to help prevent some hair loss, such as avoiding certain medicines, eating foods high in protein and iron, reducing stress, and using hairstyles that don’t damage your hair.

Other ways you can keep your scalp and hair healthy include dietary supplements, healthy scalp treatment, and altering your hair care regimen.

Some people who experience a lack of hair may need to see a doctor for a professional diagnosis and treatment.

Your doctor will look at your medical history, medications you take, your nutritional status and other factors that might be causing the problem. 압구정모발이식

If you have an autoimmune condition or a thyroid problem, your doctor might also need to do blood tests. If you have a fungal infection of the scalp, your doctor might need to use a topical antifungal medication.

Essential oils such as thyme oil, tea tree oil and chamomile oil can also be used to reduce hair loss.
